I recently purchased an NSF-7 ver. 2 motherboiard from a friend who was running an Athlon XP 3000+ CPU on it (333 FSB). I installed the motherboard and a new Athlon XP 3000 + (333 FSB) and 512 MB of Corsair pc2700. I flashed the Bios and updated the drivers for the board, but whenever I boot up, it reads the CPU to be an Athlon XP 21000+. I manually change the settings to reflect that of an Athlon XP 3000 + and when I run a game or some other taxing application, the computer either restarts or freezes and then sets the CPU to closk at 1.7 MHz and sets the RAM frequency at 266 instead of 333. What could be causing this problem?!?! Any suggestions?!?! Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you sure you're using the latest bios and nforce drivers ?

There is a mod out there called the "L12" mod which involves cutting a one of the bridges on the cpu. It's supposed to help overclockers achieve higher bus speeds. Cutting this bridge causes 166FSB cpu's to be detected as 133(266)FSB processors. So that could be a possible cause of the cpu defaulting to those speeds. Performing this mod incorrectly could lead to instability im sure , so that could be a reason for the reboots. I'd take a look at the cpu under a magnifying glass. Do a search for L12 on the net.

Restarting or lockups during strenous apps is usually a sign of overheating or power related problems. I'd check your temps and voltages in the bios and in windows if possible. Running Prime95 is an easy way to find out if you've got a hardware or heat problem. You can download it for free.

I used Motherboard Monitor 5 to check the CPU temperature during rigorous applications when I suspected it was going to restart. The CPU never rose above 48 C which should be standard temperture I believe. I also don't overclock myprocessor or any other hardware, but I will check out this "L12" mod.

Give full system specs, including the brand and model of your power supply. I'd also be interested what memory voltage you're using and what your modules are (brand / model).

I have an antec case and antec 300W power supply (not sure of the model sorry) Inside I have 2 Hard drives. Both Western Digital. One is a 120GB 8 MB cache and the other is 80GB 2 MB cache. I have a Microtek DVD-ROM drive and a Lite-On 4X DVD Burner. Also there is a standard Sony Floppy Drive. I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256 MB video card and a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Sound Card. Also is an ethernet card. Athlon 3000 XP + 333 FSB Processor in an Abit NF7 ver.2 mobo. The Heatsink is a Silent Boost by Thermaltake. The RAM is Corsair Value RAM 512 MB pc2700. The voltage I run it at is 1.65 V. I belieev that's everything. If you need to know anything else, please let me know.
