IF Conroe is coming out and it so much faster then any AMD cpu out dont you think amd sees this and is trying to Compete and make a cpu equivlent or faster to Conroe.

We're all holding our breath, to see if AMD can pull a rabbit out of its hat. Unfortunately initial previews of the AM2 socket are not too promising. But who knows?

Keep in mind that Intel has a R&D budget of several billion dollars. Very few organizations in the world can match that. I think Samsung is one. And Microsoft. But AMD doesn't have that much $$ to throw at things. One thing AMD does to help compensate is partner will other stellar companies.

But don't you realize that Intel knows that AMD knows about Intel's Conroe so Intel is gonna make an even faster chip. But then AMD knows that Intel knows that AMD knows....

The chip that may beat Conroe is currently named K8L. It'll come out sometime in 2007, though whether it launches on socket AM2 or AM3 is unknown. Don't expect an effective response from AMD before then.

this will be nothing more than intels transition from Willamette to northwood. the Willamette based P4's were very poor performers when compared with the AXP, then intel released the Northwood based P4 and the AXP looked pretty bad (I know I have a AXP 3000+ and a 3.06ghz P4 and I KNOW which one is faster by quite a bit).....then AMD's answer to the Northwood and the early prescotts was the K8 which blew the P4 out of the water.

I also own a A64 3000+ and it makes both of the other system look pretty sad.

I wouldn't worry about Intel having something faster than AMD, in the end the consumer wins.

I am not a fanboy, I own both systems and have used both intels and amd's for many many years, once the cover is put on..there is NO difference in how the PC operates, that is the way I see it.

That's a bit of a long time for a competitive response. Though I suppose it's true that Intel has been slow responding to AMD of late.

Just because they know they need something to beat Intel doesn't mean they can make it.

Conroe looks like it's going to kick arse, which is nice. However this thread is rather stupid.
