Ok, I was trying to take out my big typhoon, but it was stuck on the CPU, I thought maybe a little pull will help, and boom! the whole heatsink with CPU came out D: I was like OMG and the lock was locked! and it came out...you think the cpu broke? all the pins look fine...

It should be fine...The lock never fully secures it....It just helps clamp the pins to make full 360 degree contact with pins....

I have had this happen to me...The biggest problem is when this happens often time pins are bent or broken...That is when damage is of a concern...

Next time twist gently in a rotational method slightly each direction to break the "suction cup" effect....

happened to me many times with my athlon 3500+ with stock HSF -__-
nothing happened to it, but it got frustrating after a while.

I heard that you can heat up the thermal compound first a bit by turning on the computer and stopping the CPU fan, then let it sit, and after a minute or so, slowly take off the HSF (also rotating it a bit)

yup. just let the heatsink get warmish, play some games and take it off as soon as you shut down ought to do it... its not the actual heatsink that needs to warm up, just the TIM. that with some rotation will do the job quite nicely indeed.

hope it works out for ya.

If you use Artic Silver compound it doesn't dry out like the TIM pads of the stock retail chips...It doesn't or shouldn't need warming up....Anyway...Whther you warm up or not, use the twist motion like I described...Heating up still doesn't mean there will be no sticking...

same thing happened to me to, i got my opty with the motherboard bundle and they preassembled it.
When i wanted to take the heatsink off to check steppings, it came out together.
i didn't want to put it back in right away and turn it on to heat it,
so got a hair dryer to warm it up (being careful not to let it touch of course) - and after a few twists, came right off.

I have a theory that Arctic Silver 5 is thicker than Arctic Silver Ceramique so maybe with AS5 there is a more powerful suction effect. Seems to me there are more people saying their CPU gets stuck to their heatsinks with AS5.
In any case, I like the fact that with the Zalman 7000 ALCU, you can easilly twist the heatsink because you have to remove the black cage to install it anyway. But, it`s strongly recommended to use the Zalman backplate as well.

Sound theory, i agree, i think it sticks more if its new and hasent been exposed to much heat yet. Also agree with your sig, LONG LIVE 754!
