Also, if you plan to run WinXP64, consider Intel...this article shows a lot of benchmarks in relation between the AMD and Intel 64bit platforms. The Intel trumps the AMD in pretty much everything except gaming and memory bandwidth, IIRC. (sorry, it's late)

P.S. I voted Intel!
Er, how many of those tests really showed anything useful, aside from showing that you won't notice much difference ATM? What little differences, aside from Sciencemark--which everyone needs to run fast like they do Sandra--there were were negligible, with only a few getting close to 10%, and Intel shared in that, as Doom3 was about it.

Nice that they did a review and all, but it had practically nothing useful to CPU selection, unless you base purchases on Sandra scores and Sciencemark (both synthetic).

Oh, and AMD. Best performance per Watt. Except that I don't have a A64 yet...🙂/🙁

You'd save your company more money by just doing your damn job then you would by getting them to spend more money on the same computers with different brand processors.

Oh yeah, I also voted for Intel because that's what I currently own, although I'm sure I've still got an old amd k6 266 laying around here somewhere..... 😉

I do my damn job and I do it well as I have been doing it for 24 years. Thank for your useless post. If you think the poll is silly, don't do it. I really don't need your opinion. What I do and what time I do it is my business. And what makes you think my job didn't want this type of info? Unless you know the FACTS as to what I do please keep your opinions and mouth shut. Thanks.

My post in only useless to you because I did not vote for AMD. So go ahead and edit my post out before you show your boss how much time you've been wasting. If your employer were to read my posts, I'm sure he would agree but you probly won't let that happen.

How about my link to the stats page? Nothing to say about that? Probly not, because after reading it, you realized that this poll really is a waste of time/money. Don't get me wrong, I like taking polls, it's just that this one is truly unnecessary because the information your seeking is already available.

Edit: Oh, BTW, I'm posting this message ON MY LUNCH BREAK.

I am not even going to feed into your stupid bait. As for the link, its been there for years and I am not interested in other cpus or how many 3dfx cards are in use. I wanted something current with recent dates. Oh, BTW I am the boss so its my time.

I'm trying to get my job to switch from HP Intel workstations to HP AMD workstations. So I want to show them this poll cuz I know most of ATers use AMD, just need to show them proof. 🙂 Of course, I will have to edit this particular post before I present it to them.

This post here would show that you in fact are NOT the boss or you wouldn't have to convice anybody to switch to AMD. You would just do it, and thats' that. The only scenario I could see would be you working out of your home for some other company. Even then, your not your own boss, you just set your own hours.

Edit: Lunch is over, and so is my posting. Time to get some REAL work done.

Note to feed this but, how do you know that he isn't a vp, director, manager, etc. These people don't always have the call on whether or not it is feasible for the company to switch systems. I know for a fact that my director doesn't have that call, he has to ok it with the helpdesk, business unit and the VP. But he's still the boss and responsible for his own time.

I voted amd btw

Thanks NuroMancer.

I am the IT Director and a Senior VP (and 38) but still have to justify a 14000 worldwide PC upgrade to the finance dept. I want to go AMD as I see a major shift in that direction and can save a lot of money but finance is concerned about stability Vs cost. I want to go AMD systems and set up this poll to prove that we enthusiast know more about computers than the corporate world at large. We all know Dell sucks but a lot of large corporations still buy millions of them every year. I didnt want to go into details, just a simple CPU poll but you, flatblastard, just had to post dribble. At least the latter half of you name fits.

Anyway, back to the poll!

BTW, if anyone is wondering, I voted intel, which is my main rig. I do have a couple of systems that are AMD but they are lowely Athlon 2000+ XPs. I am looking at the HP models that have been released recently that are AMD 64s. They cost less than the Intel platform and I have been playing with one at work and find them to be highly reliable and affordable.

Oyeve, do you plan to wait for dual-core processors to be mainstream? When are you looking to purchase?

As for power consumption, I think AMD still has the lead, but I don't know for sure as I can't recall any numbers for the AMD X2 units. I think the 2.8GHz dual-core Intel one is about 95W...if they are still considerably less power-hungry than their Intel counterparts, it might save quite a bit in terms of electrical and cooling costs, not just the costs of the hardware!

Not over the older parts that they've already got, but likely so over newer parts.

Not as of yet as the cost premium most likely will NOT fall into our budget. This would be for next fall, but would like to get a head start and place orders.

Edited for more harshness

Wow, you truly are a child...
did your straw break off in your juice box? Is that why you're so gwumpy?

Edit: BTW my main rig is AMD

Blastards is short for file blasting, your ID referes to a lameass wannabe rock group. And calling me a loser scumbag brought many laughs. Thanks for the chuckles! Your comments in this post leads me to believe that it is YOU who is the loser scumbag as you have shown how immature you are just by your posting your irrelevent comments. You may leave now. Please show SOME maturity by not replying. We would all appreciate it. I know I most certainly would.

Anyway, it seems AMD is leading by a rather large margin. Thanks to all who have contributed. Your contributions have been invaluable.
