CPU pin missing.

err, think you could be a little less specific and give us no information at all?

Did a pin get broken off, or did you just get the cpu, and it came with a broken pin? Or are you talking about the corner where they specificly don't have a pin, so that you can't put it in the socket the wrong way(at least without forcing and bending/breaking pins)?

Sorry about the lack of specifics. You guys (and gals) are gonna think I'm nuts, but I'm more of a first-timer than anything. Trial and error can be a major, MAJOR pain.

I bought it (along with my mobo, case, gfx card, etc) in April. I bought a Zalman CNPS-7000 hsf. I put the fan on, but realized that I had the cpu installed the wrong way. After reinstalling it the correct way, I discovered that one of the pins was halfway bent at about a 45degree angle. I tried un-bending the pin. I got it to a 90degree angle before the sucker broke off completely. I also got a little thermal paste on the pins (too much). The missing pin, by the way, is on the opposite side of the corner that specifically does NOT have a pin.

By this point, my elder cousin (who is also who taugh/teaches me about computers) have tried everything but the kitchen sink to get the little bit of paste off of the pins. We tried floss, floss dipped in rubbing alcohol, 100lbs of compressed air from an air tank....you name it, we tried it. We got all of the paste off without breaking anymore pins, but the ONE missing pin kept the entire CPU from working.

I'm hoping that Intel will replace the chip, since it's still under warranty. If not, oh well. I am now running my system off a Celeron 1.7ghz backup chip. And it's a world away from the 3.0ghz that I've been used to.

Nope it wont work then i guess 😛

RMA it saying basically, its not working anymore and i have no idea why. They should give you a new one. Dont mention the broken pin.
