I tried to remove to stock HSF and it also pulled the processor while the zif arm/socket was down. The pins on the cpu were bent. Is there a way to straighten them or am i hosed.

if not any deals on a p4 478 533fsb

How many pins? I bent a few on mine and one of them pretty much got crunched. Yet I was able with some micro screw driver to get the pin standing up straight enough to get a needle nose plier on it. Then I use the needle nose plier to crush the pin back straight.

Try using a 0.5mm graphite stick. Got the tip from AMD Q&A; It worked on my 754-pin. Not sure on Intel, but worth a shot.

errr you mean take a 0.5mm mechanical pencil, with no lead, and put the pin inside the tip and bend it back right?

I doubt it.

The warranty covers normal use - ie professional installation and then just spending the next three years in its socket with a retail cooler on it.

Edit: When you read that nice leaflet that came with the CPU.
