Hi!

Some selfish promotion and a general request...

Do you have a picture of your favourite cpu? Contribute to the Cpu photo library!

Im in the making of a site with photos of all known cpus. Im soon reaching the 2000 photos mark but whats missing is those newer ones. As a cpu-collector there are no budget to get all those Athlons or Pentium 4:s. So if you have your old Intel or AMD laying around, scan it and submit it!

Check it out at http://www.cpuphotolibrary.com

Thanks!

/Thomas

Nice site! Brings back memories (oh, the horror!). I had an i186 pulled from a Trash-80, wonder where it disappeared to? Heh, IBM Blue Lightning! Wasn't "Chips" actually "Chips & Technology?"

There was at least one other manufacturer of CPUs, making "unauthorized" 386SX chips. Can't remember the name offhand, but recall them as being a fab and chipset company (386/486 mobo chipsets). They got an Intel license to make 386SX clones for Asia but of course all the small shops in LA had them for cheap. Seem to remember the name being 3 letters, but could be wrong.

I've gotta find my dead socket A chips.

Yes, of course its "Chips & Technology". (I realize i have to do more and more research around the chips when leaving the warm and cuddly home of Intel x86.)

Could it be UMC and the 486 "Green CPU"? Their chips are marked "Not for U.S sale or import". Cant find anything around it beeing a 386...

Hmmm, that may have been it!!! They were definately 386SX chips and definately "Not for U.S sale or import" but all the Los Angeles shops had 'em in quantities. I think these were soldered on to the motherboard and were baby AT form factor.

nice site
Do you want pics w/HSF on or w/o HSF?
I can probably get some PIII and PIV pics soon, and pics of 3800+ or Opteron 165 this summer.

Whitout. The only requirement is that the product number that describes the cpu and its features is readable.

@iRONic: Thanks! I will add it as soon as i have done some research on the K8 Family and its members. It will surelly be the fastest cpu on the block! :)

Yepp, and there will probably never be. There are plenty of sites, both vintage and newer that has all the facts around the chips. Also i dont want to compete with the sites who has contributed with the pics. I rather see it as a complement, and perhaps a tool for collectors.

BTW, forgot to... welcome to the forums, cpuswe. Hopefully you'll stick around a bit besides just soliciting pics of nekkid CPUs. ;)

If you'd like I can try to take a pic of my X2 3800+ with the heatspreader removed next time I pull the motherboard.

All pics are welcome! Specially CPU:s (around late P3:s and up) that have a market value as a real CPU. Those are still rather uncommon in the collector community.
