CPU overheats after new fans & HS

CPU: Phenom X6 II 1055T - 6 cores / 6 threads.

I don't get it. I was running with a stock cooler for ages, but it was just so loud I couldn't take it any more and picked up a Thermaltake V1. Newegg had a sale on case fans so I bought 5 at the same time. My case has three intake fans, five exhaust fans, the psu fan and the cpu fan, plus the two fans on the gpu.

Running idle, it is ~20 degrees cooler than it was with stock. Running Prime95, I tested with all iterations from 1 threaded torture test to 6. For tests 1 through 5, it ran stable and cooler with zero issues of any kind. When tested with 6 threads, CPU temp climbs and (when I was not immediately next to it to kill the tests) overheats and shuts down. Core Temp shows that my CPU temp was as high as 113 degrees C. Clearly horribly bad.

What is going on here? This just makes no sense to me. There is no way my airflow is worse now than it was before, and there is no way my stock cooler is better than the V1.

I have already taken the heatsink off, cleaned, and reapplied thermal paste. This has slowed the time it takes to overheat, but has not managed to find a stable temp at max load.

Edit: GPU & CPU both at stock clocks.

I would guess it doesnt have a proper contact between CPU and heatsink.

Remember also to use only a razorthin layer of thermal paste.

What's the RPM on that new cooler when your X6 is loaded on all 6 cores(when it overheats)?

Doesn't matter now - I broke the mounting bracket on the V1. It's basically useless. What a cheap piece of crap.

Where did you get the V1? Is it just something you have had for a while and decided to try out? I'm curious because when I did a google search for the V1 the reviews were all from 2007 - 2009. The review sites say it was for AM2/939/754. Back then I don't think any AMD cpus were beyond around 89W. Your 1055T is most likely a 125W cpu so maybe that V1 is too weak to do the job under full load.

That....would make a lot of sense. Shit. I was really hoping this wasn't my fault.

I picked it up from Newegg on sale. It wasn't all that expensive so I'm not heartbroken about it, just a bit disappointed. My 1055T is 125W.

Note to self: be less stupid/more smarter.

I would not call that stupid. You bought a cooler with copper and heatpipes, which on paper should be better than stock, but it simply didn't perform.
If that heatsink was really designed to work with older 89W cpus, and it's advertised and marketed to enthusiasts it should have been able to cool a lot more than an 89W cpu since enthusiasts overclock and that increases power draw and heat. It should have been designed to handle 89W + maybe another 30W or so, which would be right around the wattage of your cpu. It's not even as good as a stock cooler, so I say it's a poor design.
To be honest I'm not a big fan of Thermaltake and never really have been. I say just avoid them.

Thanks. I will probably settle with stock until I upgrade, hopefully to haswell but open to a vishera refresh too if the jump is worthwhile. But I just got engaged so apparently I have to save for a wedding, which will probably push away an upgrade.
