I posted this over in General Hardware, but no answers. Maybe you guys can help me out :

Recently, I had to get a new psu because my other one was broke. After installing the new one, my cpu started to overheat.
At first, I thought it was just during games, but earlier today I opened up a guitar tuning program, and I got a whopping 96% cpu usage (monitor on desktop sidebar). Then I was playing isketch(online pictionary) and i was at 90% every time i would try to draw.

My cpu never overheated before, and I can't tell why its overheating. Heres the specs:
AMD64 2800+
ABIT K8T800 PRO
1 GB "Value Ram"
ATI 9800 PRO
80 GB HDD
Thermaltake Silent-purepower 480w (new psu)

hmmm....are you overclocking anything? that could make a diff...
otherwise, try rebooting. if that doesn't work, run some adware/spyware/virus scans, see if you turn up any bugs. then do all the latest windows updates(if you're using it) then check your background processes to see if anything is running that shouldn't be.
while you're at it, clean out your rig with a compressed gas duster or vacuum
cheers and good luck

If you are saying that the CPU usage is at 96% by going in task manager that doesn't mean the CPU is over-heating. You need to check the temps of hte CPU (your mobo should have this info in the BIos or in the program they provided you). To me it sounds like a spyware, virus or some other proggie is eating your CPU usage. .

I ran spybot, adaware and hijackthis, and only 1 or 2 spyware tracker cookies showed up. My CPU is indeed overheating though, because I get the bios "BEE OO BEE OO BEE OO BEE OO" beep, and I felt the heatsink on my CPU and it was very hot... Could my PSU be giving too much voltage or something? ( I didn't change anything in the bios)

Is it a possibility you bumped the hsf when placing the new power supply in the case??? How about the fan...is it running at the normal speed...check rpm...maybe the fan is not running fast enough and building up the heat.....

The cpu being hot is a good thing though...means you have good contact....

Do you have good airflow in your case? Also, take your HD out and scan it in another system for spyware/malware and viruses.

I have pretty decent airflow, but it's a cheapo case " X-INFINITY "
Well the ABIT EQ monitoring utility wont work... I get an error message that says "OPEN FILE ERROR" I used the FanEQ program though and it says my cpu fan is at 3000 rpm at 34* and 4200 rpm at 65*
