Thermaltake Kandalf LCS Liquid Cool Chassis
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
X2 4800+ @ 2.8Ghz (235 * 12 @ 1.6V)
2GB Crucial Ballistix PC4000 (3-3-3-8 1T)

I had this configuration running rock solid for hours of BF2142 with an Asus 7800GT dual pci-e card installed using 1x pci-e power connector.

Since my 8800gtx arrived it boots fine to XP SP2 but bombs out as soon as I run Aquamark3D or 3DMark06 tests. The only difference I can see is that I now use both pci-e connectors on my Akasa P650FF 650W PSU (4x 12V rails inc. 2x pci-e)

Any clues why this thing should just power off a few seconds into the tests?

Cheers

Defintely sounds like a power issue...I tis a power hog...

have you tried manually setting the pci-e clock to 101?

Also since it has been added to the ase what have the temps look like? It may have just raised them enough to be an issue now...

I assume you have tested this by reducing the OC a bit to see if it gains stability? Otherwise it could be software issue as well...though I haven't heard oif others having issues yet...

I am starting again from scratch - so far 210 * 12 @1.4V seems stable. PCI-E is fixed at 100. Temps are unchanged - the Kandalf is a cool case :)

I am just gonna have to crank it up slow til i find something stable.

That MOBO has an "Additional Power" Molex Connector Just Below the 24 Pin ATX Power Connector.... Is that powered up ?

[Welcome] .... Thanks! Glad to be here ;)

The additional molex is not connected up because I am supplying the power directly to the card using the pci-e connectors - it was my understanding that if you had the pci-e connectors hooked up that the molex was not required....

Can anyone else confirm this?

With the NVIDIA Chipsets they do want that powered up... Try that and post back....

I think we might have you sorted out.... Post back please

OK - so I have to plug in the ATX12V 4-pin connector, the 24-pin EATXPWR and the 4-pin EZ-Plug.

Coolio - will try that and report back.

Cheers guys.

'Hail to the King, Baby!'

Thanks, guys! You are correct and I am a dumbass - the manual said to connect the 4pin molex for systems using sli solutions.... 7900GTX SLI etc would use 2 pci-e connectors, 1 per card.... JUST LIKE THE 8800GTX! Gah...

I am now back to 2.8Ghz which rendered me 114,598 on Aquamark3D (which is nice!)

BF2142 absolutely rocks on 16x12 with 16xAA and 16xAF - if only I was a half decent player LOL
