cpu or vid card causing war3 visual lag?

I just barely meet the minimum requirements for the Warcraft III beta test - 600 mhz, 32 mb video card, and 256 mb ram. When I left it on the automatic visual settings the graphics looked pretty good but during medium battles I would get really slow FPS and during large battles there was no point of me watching it cause it was so laggy. I assumed it was my GeForce 2 MX, but now I'm thinking it could be my Duron 600? I'm going to be playing this game for the next two years I think, so I'd like to figure out which one it is so I can upgrade. Thanks!

I heard blizzard is gonna optimize it for slower cpus when it reaches gold stages. My friend plays it on a slotA athlon 800, it runs fine (almost no lag at all) but he set everything to medium quality. All hes got is a 8mb TNT vanta card, 128 pc100 ram. So i think it could be ur cpu, how bout unlocking ur cpu and overclocking it?😀

Most of it is just the game, its beta and hasnt been optimized. Its pretty laggy on my system and i have friends with pretty good computers and its laggy too

Thanks, lots of different opinions.

Well my friend has a Athlon 1.3ghz and ATI Radeon 7200 (64 MB, I think its 7200) and his runs amazing even during big battles.

I'm running a 1.2Ghz T-Bird with a Radeon 32mb DDR and 512mb of Ram and it still lags some. Just wait for final version which should be better.

Yeah, I wouldn't base your upgrade on a beta version of the game... plus, when it's actually gold, the stuff you want will be cheaper, or there will be better stuff. 😀

I have an xp 1700+ 512ddr gf3ti500 and it runs nice and smooth at highest res. I don't know why your duron 600 won't do the same??? 😉

That is a good point about this just being the beta, but I didn't think too much changed during the Blizzard beta tests, although it does make sense that they would improve it since Blizz sells so many copies I doubt they would limit themselves to having people with my specs having to play on all low.

I guess my next step will be to try and overclock my 600 back to 950 and see if that makes a difference. For some reason I had a hard time getting it back that high again when I briefly tried before.
