CPU Operating Temps?

Hi all,
I suppose this has been asked before, but I'm wondering about temps in relation to the case, M/B and O/C'ed CPU. I have an ASUS P4PE with 1GB DDR333 ram, P4 2.53 and an Antec case/400w PS.

By bumping the FSB to 150 my 2.53 runs smooth and flawless at 2.85, along with the RAM weaked to CAS 2 and such. The temps on the MB average 87f (31c) and the CPU runs WinXP at 95-100f (35-38c) but when I get into the games I play (MOHAA, Ghost Recon, CFS3...) the CPU temp jumps to 114f (46c) with occasional spikes to 118f (48c)

This is all gotten form the ASUS probe program.

My question is how high is acceptable for the CPU? I doubt the temps I am reaching are considered too high, but can someone verify this for me? what WOULD be too high?

Thanks-
Jim

70?!?! Good God, that's hot. Ok, I have a ways to go. Thanks!!
Guess I'll be happy with my temps then.

Consider yourself lucky.

I have almost the exact same rig (only 512 MB RAM). My MB temps idle at about 27-28, but my CPU idles at 42-44°C. Under Prime95 or UT2k3, MB temps go up to 30°C at most and CPU to 50-52°C. This is with a MCX4000 and 38CFM 80mm fan and properly applied AS3 (I've re-applied AS and reseated HS several times just to be sure).

The P4PE has a problematic temp probe. Many boards don't have well calibrated ones. I don't, but it appears you do. Check out Asusboards.com forums to see more info on the P4PE problems (PCI/AGP frequency bug and cold boot bug).

SiSoft Sandra is showing my cpu temp @ 69c (2.53@2.78), board temp @ 36c & power/aux temp @ 32 while MBM is showing 36c & 32c (sensor 1 & sensor 2 respectively). Should I be concerned? Which should I believe?

Check the BIOS to see the actual CPU temp.
