CPU not recognized correctly

Well... I just finished building my very first pc. It was a lot of fun and I had no major problems. The only minor problems were putting on the HSF and the HD wasn't recognized right away. Now everything is up and running great.

Except ... when I go into my system properties, it says this:

Computer:
AMD Athlon XP
1.24 Ghz

That's the problem. I ordered a Athlon XP 2800+ Barton which should clock at 2.08Ghz. I remember looking at the numbers on the CPU to make sure I got the right one and though I don't specifically remember seeing that it was correct, I know I didn't notice it being incorrect. So does anyone know what might be wrong here? Is it just not recognizing it correctly or is it the wrong CPU?

Athlon XP 2800 (supposedly)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
Radean 9700 pro video
windows xp pro

Your FSB is set to 100MHz. Set it to 133. The setting probably is in your BIOS but it is a jumper on some motherboards.

thanks xbox, yep 166 it was.

I have one more question. When I went into the bios, there was something about videocard memory (sorry, I dont remember the exact wording) ... but it was set at 64mb. With a Radeon 9700 should I set it to 128mb?

The AGP aperture size? I set mine to 64 or 128 with a 9700 as well... leave it alone if you're not having any problems. Just don't set it to 16 or something. 🙂

that's the one. I just figured that it might supposed to be 128mb because the card is 128mb. It is set at 64mb now and is working fine tho

I had jerky DVD playback with the aperture set at 64MB for my 9700. The problem went away when I set it to 128.
