CPU/Mobo installation

sorry i'm a noob...

I have the socket lever up and put the CPU (AMD 3200+) into the socket, but when I push down on the lever it gets difficult to push down around 40 degrees. Should it get harder to push the lever down around then? Should I keep going? I don't want to mess up the pins. Note: Yes the golden triangle is aligned to the right place.

Also for dual channel ram do I put it on the same colored slots or different colored? Fry's guy told me same color, but then I checked manual and it says the colors correspond to different channels, A and B. Which is it then?

I would follow what it says in the manual though I'm sure others around here will have first hand experience. I have a single channel board so I don't know for sure.

again not sure about the cpu installation problem. for the memory it's usually suppose to be same color. you can check in bios when you get the cpu problem resolved. what mobo is it anyways?

Read a buch of mobo reviews and see what the convention is. Or see if your memory has installation instructions.

better if you wait till noon. all the other guys are up then and they should know alot about these stuff. did you try posting this in the cpu/processor section?

I think it's DIMM 1&3 and DIMM 2&4 if you are going for Dual Channel.

My DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra has DIMM 1&3 the same color while DIMM 2&4 are the same color different color than the other two slots.

As for the CPU, there will be a little added pressure when you pull the lever down, but don't ever force anything. As long as the pins are lined up correctly (it only fits one way) then you should be fine.

Drop the hammer!

my biggest concern was the socket lever. i went ahead and pushed it all the way down... towards the end it started creaking a little... then went down fine. However, when I pulled the lever up again it got stuck at the same place where i felt the pressure when I was pushing down. I wiggled the lever and then it popped back up. I hope i didn't mess up the pins. Thanks for the help!

Any other suggestions would be good.

pop the lever back up, take the CPU out and check the pins, if they are ok, then you're ok.

i looked at the pins... they all seem to be straight, but then maybe they're all bent at the same angle. haha... actually i THINK they are fine. i took the cpu out of my case because i'm waiting for my heatsink/fan to come.

As longs as the CPU will drop into the socket (it should fit like a glove) the pins are ok.

The CPU is ok. Stop worrying so much!
