I just bought a new cheiftec case , leadtek GF3 Ti200 and Creative Audigy gamer. I was going to install the new hardware and then move everything from my addtronics case to the cheiftec becauses its black and matches the room better.

Anyway, I was telling the wife about the P4 1.6A that everyone is talking about and she said why you need that... Well, because it's new....:) So I figure all I need is a CPU,mobo and some DDR ram and I'm good to go as I also have a spare 13.6 G HDD. So can it work for under $400..

I'm not up much on the new P4s and the new boards, I'm still in the BX days..

Can someone give me some part numbers on what I would need.

Thanks.

How does $320 sound? Epox 4BDA mobo - $111, PNY 265mb PC2100 memory - $74, Retail P4 1.6a - $135. All from Newegg. And, you can tell your wife you saved $80, enough to take her out for a nice dinner.

Note: this assumes that your new case has a P4 power supply with the small square 4 pin- 12v plug, otherwise you would need one. If needed, an Enermax would be a good choice for aprox. $45 - $50.

If you are into overclocking and I could not see why you wouldn't be if you are wanting a 1.6A, then I would spend a little extra dough on a better mobo and ram than the epox and PNY. You should be able to run the 1.6A@2.2 pretty easy and it would suck if your ram held you back. I just upgraded from my trusty BX platform.

Do it right the first time. The motherboard is the most important piece of an upgrade. Go for the Asus i845/DDR offering.
