Cpu may be bad...Is it safe to test in a motherboard?

Hi,
Is it safe to test a cpu that you suspect
may be bad or fried in a motherboard without damaging the motherboard??
Would you do it in a fairly new board??



 
I wasnt sure if it would just not post or messup my motherboad . Thanks for the replies....I,ll give it a try!
