CPU maxing out when opening Firefox

I have a Dell 4550 with a P4 2.53 proccessor and 1gig of ram with a x700 radeon vid card.

I have never had problems browsing until i reloaded everything on my PC for a new office setup. Now everytime I try to open windows in Firefox they take forever. Even this pop up for creating a new post took about 10 seconds to load. I added a screenshot of the CPU monitor as I opened this window. You can see I do not have much open and I am not maxed out on memory.

I tried installing speedfan, but it only reads the HD temp, the one you see is the HD not the CPU. I cannot even find the CPU in the program.

Any advice?

That looks great, but its not only firefox, its all programs. I spend most of my time on Firefox, so that is where I notice it most. maybe its time for an upgrade of the mobo and CPU. Anyonw know of issues with the Dell case on putting an aftermarket board in it?

That system shouldn't be NEAR maxed out on CPU just running normal desktop stuff.

Probably your video drivers are messed up and it's trying to do all the GUI things in software instead of using hardware acceleration. I'd uninstall and reinstall your chipset and video drivers, and make sure you have the latest versions of each. Using Driver Cleaner to ensure they're completely uninstalled might not hurt.

I will try the driver cleaner. That sounds like its the issue. and no I do not have an xfi card only the sapphire x700 or 700x agp card

This ended up being a problem with my plug-ins. I had foxy tunes and torrent search installed and something else. I removed these and now its lightning fast.
