Sempron 3300+
Geforce 7600GS 512MB

I'm trying to play Company of Heroes, but it's super slow.

Actualy, you are probably being held back by your ram, 512mb is barely enough to run windows, let alone COH.

7600 should run COH perfectly fine

I ran it on a athlon 64 3500 w/ a 6600GT and 1 gig ram perfectly fine with medium settings 1024x768

By the way, that game is so freaking hard

CoH will not run well with those system specs. The Havok physics in that game require a lot more processor than a Sempron, and that 7600GS' memory is held back by a lower bit bus and slow memory. It is also a very mid-low range video card. Also, 2GB of RAM is nearly a must for CoH. Make sure you aren't running it at higher settings than you should be; expect medium to low settings at 1024x768 or higher.

Oh come on now, Sempys aren't anything amazing, but you're complimenting celerons by putting them both in the same category. Sure Semprons are in the same market segment, but the performance difference is real.

Ok, looks like I'll be looking at the CPU first, thanks.

Just to clarify, I'm not sure either is a significant bottleneck. I don't think you'll see huge FPS improvements upgrading one or the other; it might have to be all or nothing.

Actually, 128MB is barely enough to run windows (yes it can be done), 256MB is a little better, and 512MB is relatively comfortable, with 1GB or more being the good life.

I don't know where people get the idea that 512MB of RAM isn't enough for XP  Unless they like running a million background processes :p

For plain ol' XP, you are absolutely right, but add in antivirus etc and 1GB is needed to be comfy, 2GB ideal for gamers and other powerusers.

Running XP Pro, with 33 processes, I'm using 400 MB of RAM, with two web pages open. That means that 512MB would be the minimum I could get by with, without wearing out my hard drive, just running one app at a time. Just because it's possible to do something, doesn't mean that it's advisable.

Any machine I've ever worked with that had XP and less than 512mb of ram was extremely sluggish and constantly hitting the page file. 512mb makes windows run smooth..but then you try running a game, and it starts paging and getting sluggish again..that was my point..
