cpu hsf

when I touch my hsf while the computer is on it feels like it's body temperature or lower. however my cpu is running at like 42 C on idle and i'm using AS5. when i touch my zalman heatsink that's on my northbridge chip it's burning hot...

is my hsf not making good contact with my cpu if it's running lukewarm/warm temperatures? take off the hsf and reapply AS5? what should i do or is this normal?

3200+ AMD 64 venice core
arctic cooling ultra 64 HSF

42C is pretty damn cool for a CPU so I wouldnt at all consider the HSF being warm as an indicator that its not functioning properly.

Did you follow the AS5 instructions properly? Proper installation can go a long way towards better temps. 🙂

i put a bead of AS5 in the middle and tried to smash it flat with the hsf... i never lifted the hsf again to see how much it spread though. i did do some test runs before though...

but yea is 42 C on idle OK? it runs to around 51 C when doing some work but i haven't fully tested out my cpu at max yet.... so it could run hotter than 51C. if it did run hotter... is that too hot?
