CPU hs fan mounting

i recently bought a heatpipe cooler and for some reason its working worse than my stock intel fan and heatsink. its a t pipe 101 and i got a 2.4

whats the best way to mount a fan onto a heatsink? should i have it blowing down onto the heatsink or have it sucking air away from it?

and can anyone who knows a bunch about heatpipe coolers tell me about this problem?
does it like take a while to start workin good or sumtn?

You should have the fan blowing away from the cpu, because you want it taking the heat from the heatsink away from the processor. Did you use AS5?
 
Most heatsinks are designed to have the fan blowing down and will work better that way. The best way to find out for sure is to try it both ways and see wich works best for you. You didn't say what heatpipe cooler you bought, some of them are no better than a stock cooler. If it's performing worse than your stock cooler by a good margin; chances are it's the installation to blame. Make sure it's securely mounted and making good contact, use a good thermal compound, and make sure you clean any residue from the original hsf from the cpu before mounting the new one.
