Just added a BFG 6800GT OC to the system and everything works fine and looks INSANELY good with all the options turned up. Call of Duty looked sickeningly good (have yet to try FarCry) BUT....

at one party in COD United Offensive (2nd or 3rd mission) things got so slow for about 15 seconds it was virtually unplayable (no this was not the "shell shock" effect within the game).

Based on research it looks like the CPU is holding me back a bit.

Here is what I am running

ASUS P4P800
2.8E P4 (1mb cache/800FSB) -- no o/c
1GB of Kingston DDR400
120gb SATA Maxtor drive
Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD

Everything looks great but I am just concerned that if it slows down on COD in parts how bad will it be with FarCry. I am guessing its time to move on to that 3.2 or 3.4 Prescott.

Naturally I prefer to play everything with the best quality picture I can get -- also I game at 1280 x 1024 for the most part and not 1600 x 1200.

Thanks for the input

Greg

Your 2.8 preshot is fine. It may slightly bottleneck you, but you wouldnt notice, esp in cod, the framerate drastically decreasing. It would act more like it was overall decreased at a steady percentage of the overall card's max performance. You should get atleast 80% of what a 3.6gig preshot would get out of that card framerate wise. Maybe u should wipe clean and resinstall your drivers.

Thanks.

I actually already did that before since I had a major crash this past w/e and was forced to do it.

Well, even the fastest systems have hiccups sometimes, its only a minor slow down for awhile, dont worry too much

Running 61.77 drivers

Also I was using a 9600 Pro before and I couldn't turnon any special features and had to run and medium settings in most games to be able to play w/o problems. The 9600 did do an excellent job though considering its price vs. the 6800.

Try install different drivers, plenty of better ones have been released..I personally didn't like the 61.77's.
