Hi all...I'm new to the forum but like some help, I just overhauled my system.
Went from a P4 3.0GHZ,AGP,1GIG 400 DDR, 6800 128MEG AGP VANILLA GPU,ASUS P4800MB
TO.. INTEL CORE DUO E7200 2.53 775,ASUS P5N-DLGA 775 PCIE 2.0 SLI MB,2 GB CORSAIR
EXTREME RAM,AND A EVGA 8800GS 2.0GPU.....AND Proud to say for just $460.00.

Now I haven't had a chance to really check it out much, but this morning I puton the asus PC
PROBE II utility program and it showed that my cpu was running Hot at 52c and setting off the
alarm and then went down 48-50 c but the box is still red!!!
Now When they sent the cpu it didn't come with any thermal grease, but I looked on the bottom of the heat sink and there is a whitetape circle, is the replacement for the grease or do I need to still add thermal heat grease to the cpu???also what is the normal temp for a dou core 2 cpu
any help on this issue would be helpful

thanks
G

PC Probe II can seem like the most ineptly written piece of software at times...I've had instances where it told me my CPU was running at 124C.

Try a more reliable app, like CoreTemp or SpeedFan and see what they say about the 2 cores.

Use Real Temp 2,6 to find out your temperature. But remember that in idle the temperature reading you'll get contains an error in it, so it will surely be higher then normal. For example my E7200 had 39 C in idle no matter if my room was at 20 C or at 35 C.
Like AmberClad said, PC Probe is pretty much useless for your cpu.
Try loading your cores and tell us what is RealTemp 2.6 reading.

You should see a significant boost. And that chip you have is very overclockable, mine's running 3.6Ghz @ 1.216v, idling at 35c, loading at 52c. You might want to look into that once you've verified temps.

Great chip. Your games will fly.

Hey,thanks for the tip,I down loaded Speedfan and here are my results at idle

Temp 1 47c
Temp 2 36c
Temp 3 22c
HDO 38c
T1 40c
Core 0 27c
Core 1 27c
Core 52c
Ambient 43c

One Thing I did notice that after a round of bioshock I Saw that my Video card temp Shot up to 72c while running the game, now I don't know the average temp to a gpu during a game,is
that normal or to hot

Speedfan reports +10c on the E7200.

Download RealTemp for more accurate reporting on these chips. But looking at that, you look ok.

Tell us the RealTemp readings if you can.
