CPU Fried?

I was installing this Intel Desktop Utility and all of a sudden the computer shuts off and tries to restart, but only my graphic card turns on with the fan on full speed. Nothing else is on.

I tried hard reboot by holding the power button, but no luck.

What is the deal?

Also, the light in the front isn't turning on either. Only my graphic card, but nothing comes on the screen.

I am having freakin panic attack. aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!
I can't even think right now.

I unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in. Then I tried again and it worked, but right after the post beep, the screen to choose from "safe mode" and "start windows normally" comes up.
I chose normal start up and the vista loading screen came up for a second and then there was a flash of a blue screen and the computer restarts again.
Same thing with "Safe mode".

Any idea of whats causing this blue screen?
And how could I get a better look at that blue screen, since it flashes for a millisecond.

I think you can enable the option in your bios so the blue screen stays, instead of it dissapearing right away. Blue screen usually has something to do with ram though. Perhaps try only 1 stick of ram, and see if it works?

If you're making it to Safe Mode, your CPU is working.
Sounds like a bad MB to me.

Yea, cpu's are really hard to fry. Something is wrong, but what? Time to start troubleshooting if you ask me.

so basically I should just take everything apart and start putting back everything one by one.

Well, your pc posts, right? So everything is connected in the right way. One or more components are failing though. I'd start with your ram, take out two sticks and run with a single stick, if it doesn't work, try stick #2, etc. Still no go? Try a different videocard perhaps, or maybe the HDD has gone bad? It's tough, but if you let the technician do it you might as well buy a new PC

OK. So, I turned my house upside down, trying to find my original Lenovo Vista Recovory CD.

I finally found it and have started to reinstall vista on the old partition. It will keep my old files in a separate folder and install a fresh copy.

Lets hope that whole thing was Vista's fault and none of my hardware has gone koo koo for coco puffs.

thats in advanced system properties. uncheck the reboot on crash or whatever.
