I just ordered an XP 2600+ and the Thermalright SLK-800 heatsink. Question is would any 80mm fan work well or is there a certain one that anyone can recommend? I also ordered this fan thinking of using it as a case fan, but if that would be good enough on the CPU I may put it there instead. Also this is going on the DFI Lan Party NFII Ultra board.

Also I don't plan on overclocking it.

Which direction would be optimal for the fan, onto or away from the processor with this heatsink?

The fan should blow onto the CPU, and any 80mm should be fine as long as you're not doing extreme overclocking.

I actually got a 92mm fan to fit on my 800.

Eh you did? That's kind of cool considering the 900U retails for more money. Is it wobbly at all?

92mm on the slk

most any fan will work if your not overclocking to the extreme, and most any fan will work if your only moderately overclocking. the slks are good that way, the small base doesn't obstruct airflow from low rpm fans so that works pretty well too. to squeeze the last 100mhz of oc you need a powerful fan though.

i think i'm gonna try fitting a 120mm onto mine later. low noise high output. :) but none of this matters for you, that svc fan spits out more then enough for your purposes. you might even slow it down to reduce noise since many use panaflos on theirs.. which is just a low rpm 80mm

hmmm. I tried mounting mine rotated like that and it didnt feel to sturdy. It actually worked better mounted square with the sink. I had to kind of stretch the brackets, so it doesn't clip in nicely like an 80mm, but it still seems stable enough

Thanks guys, I think I will use that one on the processor for now. I went to AMD's site and found some of the CFM numbers for the fans they reccomend and they were about 1/2 what the one I have pushes :D
