CPU fan not spinning on startup on GA-P35C-DS3R

I just got the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R P35 board and installed it last night.

I have a Zalman 9500 Heatsink/Fan combo on my Intel e6600 Core 2 Duo CPU.

When I go into Bios the temps for CPU read 22Celcius.

My question is the CPU fan does not kick on, but It does move slightly as if it wants to spin up. Is there a certain temp that it needs to reach before it will kick on??? This seems odd. I took the fan and plugged it into the System Fan 1 connector on Motherboard and then it is running around 1200 rpm's all the time.

Any ideas? Could I have a defective motherboard? Is there a bios update or a setting I need to enable? I believe my mobo version is 1.1 and bought it from NewEgg.

Thanks,
Bill

If you're using a 4 pin cable to the motherboard and you're letting the BIOS control the fan speed then everything is fine. To verify, go into the BIOS and turn off the auto fan speed.

I plugged the CPU Power 1 , 4 pin connector into the motherboard. I'm not sure if the BIOS is controlling the fan speed or not, I left stuff at the defaults and it was late at night!

Would plugging the CPU FAN into the System Fan 1 plug on the mobo work ok (atleast the heatsink fan spins when I do that)? I'm just wondering if the system would throttle back my CPU speed because it thinks the CPU fan isn't functioning properly due to a 0rpm CPU Fan reading. What do you all thnk?

I contacted gigabyte support and they said this is normal, it will only engage the CPU fan if its needed.

I disabled the SmartFan in the bios and it did start spinning. Aftewards I turned smartfan back on and then proceeded to run windows vista and install applications and games. Even when playing a game the fan would very slowly start to spin. My Avg CPU temps were only 18-23 Celcius according to Gigabytes Easy Tune software at anytime I checked the system, in a game or not.

I guess my Zalman 9500 CPU Cooler is doing a fine job!
