"CPU FAN NOT ON"? - but I can see it working!

I just installed my MSI KT3 ULTRA2 mobo with an XP1600 and a Arctic Cooling Super Silent Pro TC.

When I boot the computer I get a warning that the fan isn't on, however, I can physically see it whirring.

What's goin on?

Some MOBOs have to detect a high minimum RPM or else they think the fan is dead. On my board I had to turn the fan monitor off in the BIOS.

It may also simply be on the wrong header or the fan speed sensor on the fan itself doesnt work. I had a Delta 7k with the 3 wire speed sensing fan, but the motherboard simply could not pick it up on any header. I figure it was simply a defective fan wiring problem.

Edit.. yes what Antisocial-Virge beat me too.. 🙂

I just checked...its in the right header.

This fan is supposed to change speed according to the current temp...so could this be a factor?

That's hard to say. I'm a believer of the fan auto detect (Save me once when I forgot to plug in the fan...Doh!). I now check to see that all fans are plugged in when I'm about to close the case.

If you are having problems with it, then I suggest turning it off, but be VERY careful that there is a fan on the CPU at all times.

I just turned off the cpu fan detection and it seems to be running fine.

If it werent running fine wouldnt the cpu overheat in like 10sec and fry?

UH OH.
I changed the frequency to what it should run at and now it wont boot.

Is it because I have a 250psu and there isnt enough power, or did I fry the cpu?

oooh man...=/

Did you change it in the BIOS or by a jumper on theboard? I assume you mean you changed it from 100 to 133. Most motherboards have a jumper on the actual board... is that what you changed?

You'll need to clear the CMOS and start again.

The fan on the Arctic Cooling Super Silent Pro TC,starts out VERY slow then increases when your cpu heats up.Just be sure to check your bios temps if your concerned about overheating.

Toro

i don't have the warning on because my fan doesn't have an rpm lead. doesn't bother me much, the silence can tell me if its not working (sudden silence has woken me up before 🙂 )
