WHen I am looking to buy a cpu fan, what would be a low noise level? I am looking at one that is 28dba, Is that loud, quiet, or in the middle?

Anything below 30 should be nice. I recommend a thermalright SK-7 copper hs that will utilize an 80mm fan.

I agree... whatever Heatsink that you choose just get one that can hold an 80mm .... then slap on a Panaflo or better yet slap on a Vantec Stealth like I did... your ears will thank you...This is the best 80mm fan on the market with 21 dba for 27cfms, the panaflos get 21 dba for 24 cfms ... only $6 at bestbyte.net with $5 shipping for the vantec ... I have one on top of my Alpha pal8045 from my dragon orb3+ and my ears don't bleed anymore!! Yea!

SVC had the GC-68 for $5 2weeks ago and periodically they get more.. its a good deal for the price

You can voltage mod too. Shoot my entire fileserver runs on 5v fans. Including the power supply and CPU (given it is a low power computer, k6-2 500, 128mb sdram, 3x 80gb 5400rpm drives). You cannot hear the computer at all its great :)

anything over 30 dba is going to be fairly audible. over 40 is going to be fairly loud. the 21 dbs panaflos are basically silent.
