CPU DEAD !!!

Hey guys, i have recently purchased a new system that i put together myself and have had a lions share of problems... first off New egg sent me a defective gigabyte motherboard the new nforce 4 model with no northbridge fan... so i sent that back and got a new msi motherboard the nforce 4 ultra chipset.. ok so everything was working ok until i noticed that the bios was only reading 512 megs of ram when i had a gig installed so i tried different combinations and figured out that one of the sticks of ram was dead... ok so called new egg and was going to have new ram sent... so i though everything was kosher... until i came home from school last night to find that the computer was not even posting. so i took out the diagnostic tool and hooked it to the motherboard... it said cpu damaged or not installed properly ... arghhhh!!!!... so i took the proccessor out and reinstalled no beans...D***.... When i took it out the second time i saw two pins bent.... i dont know if ti was like the whole time it was working or not but.. the pins were in the vss position or grounding... and my gf was vacuuming around the wires and said she had moved the wires and the screeen went blank... so i am thinking since the grounding pins were bent that maybe when she moved the wires she shorted the cpu out... Any Thoughts...

Umm... you have the worst luck ever. They could be grounding pins. They may not be. If the system isn't posting, then there's a number of things you can try. What first comes to mind is check your PSU. Having this many problems is odd. Also check the warranty on that 3500+. You should still be able to RMA it.

hey yeah what can i say lady luck is just not on my side as of late... there is still power to the mb cause case fans running etc...and i tried to reset the cmos but no go my friend... i am pretty sure that the pins were grounding because a look at a daigram of the pins and it said vss for one of them...
i believe if there is physichal damage to the cpu that it cannot be rmaed... well i got a new cpu on the way regardless... a socket 939 winnie 3000+

What was she doing inside the computer ????? Don't blame this on AMD or newegg....

lol.... she was not inside the computer silly.. she was vacuuming on the floor near the computer desk and moved a few wires the were strewn along the floor...but i believe that if the grounding pins were in proper place that the shifting of the wires would of not have has too much affect... she had been doing it to the wires of the old computer for quite some time

vacuuming near a one pc with exposed wires??? I would say static electrical discharge would be a concern...

The bent pins...How far are they bent over...approx degree form vertical or straight...You will have a tough time RMAing this one...

I know that i will notbe able to rma it as i had stated in an edit to one of my previous posts...
and the computer did not have exposed wires she was simply vacuuming near the surge protector and move some of the wires e.g the power plug og and the usb mouse cable nothing internal to the computer was touched...

Basically you have one shot at it...You bend it back and go past it most liklely will break coming back the opposite direction again...If they are completely flat that coul be difficulty getting something in there and under it, to lift it enough.

As mentioned before a good mechanical pencil (perhaps a .05 or .07mm) minus the lead can be sleeved over it and used to straighten it...

thanks a lot for all the tips guys... I did try and straighten the pins and two of them broke off... man you really need the hands of a surgeon to get those pins straightened... but alas i do have another proc on the way... its an a64 3000+ skt939 winnie...
