cpu cooling question

i am running an athlon xp 2000+ with a thermalright sk-6... and my cpu temperature is running around 50 degrees. is this normal? it seems quite hot so please give me suggestions on how i might be able to reduce temp.

thanks in advance

What kind of fan is on the heatsink and what direction is it blowing? Also how is you case cooling setup?

the 50 degrees is running at partial load (very light stuff).

i have one case fan blowing in and one blowing out, and my case temp is very cool-- usually in the 20/30s.

the CPU fan is blowing onto the HS. I'm thinking that I might have to replace the fan, because i got a vantec stealth fan which admittedly doesn't move much air-- however, i didn't expect it to make that much of a difference!!!

i'm also thinking of reapplying some thermal paste-- perhaps i skimped too much?

thanks for all answers/advice

I, too, am using a Thermalright SK-6. Well actually two of them on my dual XP1800+s. Both were applied with Artic Silver II and are using panaflo l1as. Temps are held at 46C under full load. Definitiely try reapplying thermal paste and even try changing the direction the heatsink fan is blowing. In my setup, both fans are pulling away from the heatsink.
