Question, how much space does one have to play around with heatsinks on a shuttle XPC? (namely the SN41G2) Does anyone know? Or know where to find out? I would hat eto buy a heatsink and discover it won't fit in the system! Any thoughts and suggestions?

No need really, the stock heatpipe does wonders. Currently running P4 2.66 @ 3, dual hard drives, dvd burner, and AIW9700 Pro. Never had a heat issue at all.

I wouldn't mess with the cooling design, what they have works. There is very little room in the "heatsink area" because it is a low profile peice on the CPU that uses a heatpipe up and to the rear of the system where the single 80MM fan is.

Jamison is right, the stock cooling system works well. I'd only recommend changing the fan to a quieter or more powerful one that has RPM sensing capability (like a Panaflo) so that the Smart Fan feature still works.

I got the 80mm panaflo, and set it to full. It is quieter at full than the sunon with smart fan enabled and it cools well. This fan has no RPM sensor, so you cant enable smart fan with it.
If you want a quieter fan and still use smartfan, i'd recommend the enermax 80mm fan.

If you want to control ur panaflo, use speedfan, doesn't matter if you have RPM sensoring or not. I'm using Panaflo H1A in my SN45G and throttling it down with speedfan... I must say, though, it's cooler and quieter than the stock sunon. If you want to replace your fan, also look toward silenX, papst, and noiseblockers.

now I have to replace the stock fan on my Radeon 9600Pro, its the loudest thing in there... zm50-hp's fit... but its so hard to find here in canada :(
oh, and the new 250w silentX PSU is coming out this week, or next (supposedly a trade-in offer as well). cooler, quieter, and more power; great or what?

250W in a trade-in offer would be ultra-sweet!! Please post details if you find any.

I also saw in the forums at www.sfftech.com that theres a post about fan swap lists for the case and the PSU.

You can watercool your xpc. Ive seen it done with plastic hoses. It was a gorgeous design and well thought out. If you look around you might be able to find a kit. The reservoir did portrude out a bit on the back maybe 2 by 3 inches but thats just too cool. Even has windows and colored water :)

i found the PSU offer in www.us.shuttle.com website. the offer is $24 off the 250 PSU for the shuttle.
Pretty sweet deal. :)
I saw a aquarius II kit in a shuttle on the sfftech forum. fully self contained too.
