CPU Cooling Fan Behavior

I recently replaced the cdrom drives in my computer, replaced my video card, and moved my sound blaster to a new pci slot. Well, I boot into windows, and MBM says that cooling fan 1 is at 0 rpm...

So I glance into the case. Sure enough, the cooling fan isn't running. Being the daring one that I am, lol, I stuck my finger in it and started it moving. It kept going really slow. I couldn't figure out what was going on...then MBM said that the CPU hit 50C....then it immediately said 51C. Lo and behold, that cooling fan takes off like a jet engine. Once the processor is at 49C, it stopped running. It has been doing that since I booted up five minutes ago. Is this OK?

BTW I'm running a Duron 800 at the moment, silver orb cooling fan.

I'm off to check my BIOS for health options...

I'm not sure what Mobo you're using but it sounds like it has a built in Thermally controlled fan header. On some mobo you can disable this either through jumpers or in the bios. Check the manual. Check the cpu fan too coz it might have a thermal switch on it too. Yes this is normal for those kind of mobo. But some people would rather have a fully running cpu fan but others prefer to have them quiet and run them only when required.

Right now I'm not at home, so I'll check the motherboard manual when I get there. The fan was running all the time until I moved around the different components. I took out the fan and tried to put on a spare fan. Just then, a bug landed on my face (ewwwww...) and I missed (I was using a screwdriver to push on the fan clip). The fan came unconnected on both sides, and I hit the processor with the screwdriver on accident. Big crack right down the middle. Great...no more Duron. On a brighter note, I do have that Athlon on my desk just waiting to be installed...I still need help with the fan issue tho.
