i wanna switch my cpu heatsink to another one, ive been looking around but the TRUE is still too expensive and also back in the day when i was looking for the HSF the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro was one of the top ones...its like 30bucks at newegg.ca right now with free shipping...do you think its a good changeup or not? cuz when i got the typoon initially it wasnt cooling as per the reviews results and so on...by the way the cpu is lapped and so its the typoon...anyways let me know what you think before i go ahead and switch coolers....thanks

so your asking me if its okey to do a sidegrade instead of an upgrade?

That should answer your question.

Have you cleaned the dust from the Typhoon? Just take the top fan off.

Your B3 may be able to go to 3.4ghz with a better cooler, but you may want to get more Ram instead for a tangible performance difference.

I agree with Aigo that the performance difference between typhoon and AC7 isnt going to make it a worthwhile $30 spend.

For $30, XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 is a better cooler.

Yea thats what ive been told. I guess it's not much of an upgrade. That's why I came here to ask. I've also been told to get a 4 gig kit of ram. Will that increase my perf overall?? Even with vid gaming?? What kit would be good for less than 100 Canadian dollars?? Thanks. Also, my CPU is at the stated speed and temps are hovering in the high 30s according to realtemp. I'm in the basement so it's usually cooler. I also recently dusted the pc so that brought it down. The vcore according to the bios I think is 1.3450or something. I'd have to check when I get home.
Ps. I'm running windows 7 x64!
Thanks guys

edit: I looked at newegg.ca and they have that xigmatek cooler for 40 and the 1284ee for a dollar more or something. Whichone is better and what is the difference?

4 gigs of RAM with a 64 bit operating system is never a bad thing. It probably won't get you better performance in GPU limited games (Crysis) but it can help your computer to feel snappier overall.

If things are feeling slow in GPU limited games, you may need a newer graphics card depending on your monitor resolution. For 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 monitors, a performance card with 1GB of VRAM is about perfect. Something like a 4890 or GTX 275. However, with ATI's new cards just launched, I'd wait a bit and grab a 5850 when prices drop.

Your processor at 3.2 GHz shouldn't be a bottle neck for anything currently, unless you're running a screaming SLI or Crossfire setup. Sure, you could get slightly better performance by overclocking more, or even grabbing a new i7 / i5, but it won't be very noticeable. Aside from graphically limited games, the biggest upgrade you can do is a SSD, but it may not play nice with your motherboard (it didn't with my 680i).

Before I had a 19" and crysis warhead would makemy card crouch but it wasn't running at the 1440*900 res. Te game didn't have the option. Right now I have a 32" aquos at 1360*768. And I haven't tried any games on it yet. I usually get my cards primarily for flight simulator 2004 which doesn't support sli. So sli is out of my sight. Other than that I'm not a hard gamer but I like to have a nice system so that when I play a game I runs nicely. Also I think I'm gonna wait till the new cards come out and the old ones drop to get something like a 260 or a 4890. I shall come back and ask for your opinions when I'm ready to spend. Meanwhile thank you

edit: hey guys i got this kit. Let me know what you think, also i downclocked my ocz to 800mhz and lowered the timings to 4 4 4 12 1T and ran memtest for a while with no errors...now can i combine the two kits running at lets say 900(if the gskills can reach that) or what do you suggest? 800 with 4 4 4 12? or lower the timings for something better? im not familiar with overclocking ram thats why i ask so much...thanks

CL4-4-4-12 is going to be better than CL5-5-5-15 at 900. But again you are looking at 1-2% performance difference in the real world (other than WinRAR).

Also your temperatures look fine (30s in idle). What are they at load? B3 at 60-65*C should be fine.

Nice kit. G.Skill makes good memory.

at load they are low mid 50's with the HSF cranked up to high speed...when i leave the fan at idle it reaches around 63 degrees running prime95 but the fan at full rpm drops the temps by like 8 degrees....question, what difference does it make if i underclock the reapers to match the gskills and have 6gb of ram instead? thanks

Ya your temperatures are perfectly fine. I was running my Q6600 G0 3.4ghz at 65-68*C in the summer on a Tuniq Tower 120 at 1.39V or so.

Core 2 Duo at 3.2ghz Memory Scaling

You can see that there is little performance difference between DDR2-1150 5-5-5-15 and DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 on the Core 2 architecture.

I can tell you that even with the Core i7 860 at stock speeds, the performance difference between DDR3-1066 and DDR3-1600 at CL7 timings in Resident Evil 5 benchmark is 1-2fps at most from 1280x1024 all the way to 1920x1080 8AA. Memory bandwidth is just not that important for today's desktops (unless you are gunning for SuperPi record or using WinRAR, or another memory intensive application). The main reason for faster memory is to prevent memory from being your bottleneck in overclocking.

I am running 4GBs in total. More than enough for any game and anything I do. I think you need more than 4 for photoshop and other professional image editing work.
