I too have the 3000+ and a AC 64. Good combo, although my CPU isn't quiet at your 2.8, it's running at around 2.4.

The AC 64 is only like $25 at most and most DEFINETLY better than stock HSF.

Right now i'm defraging my HDD and it's at 35.
Not running much now but you get the point.

When gaming it's about 35 too, idles around 29 🙂

if you are worried about size and such, my suggestion would be to buy one of the many retail AMD heatpipe coolers for sale here on the forums. These are the coolers that come with the FX and dual core CPUs. They have a copper base, aluminum fins, 4 heatpipes and a 80mm fan. They are said to perform quite the same as a XP-90 and you can get one for about $20 shipped.

That's a great suggestion! I've never thought of it before but that would be great bang for the $$$$.

I'm currently running my 3000+ Venice @2.8 with stock HS/Fan (yes I am).
Temps are ok, but with the summer months coming, I want to get something to take the edge off and buy me a little breathing room for warmer room temps.

I don't want or need anything crazy-ass like some of these super high-end coolers now. I was looking at the AC 64 and while impressive that thing is a monster... I just don't want anything that big.

Quiet is key too....

suggestions?

What stepping & motherboard do you have? That OC is impressive for a 3000+!

I am thinking about the Arctic freezer 64 for my opteron 170 on A8R32-MVP board...what is this deal with weight? Is their a weight that the HSF should not surpass for AMD S939 processors?
