Is there anybody using a ZALMAN CNPS7000A-ALCU AMD/P4 S462/S478 ALUMINUM 1350-2400RPM CPU cooler
on a ASUS P4P800 Mb. Is this cooler woth getting instead of using the stock cooler that came with the CPU.
Looking for some help, before I order. Is there a better one that i should consider.

Your help would be appreciated.

Tks

CNPS7000A is a HSF designed for less noise. Many people say it has a little bit better cooling performance than a stock HSF, however, produces way less noise (or no noise at all). If the reason you consider switching is noisy stock HSF, go for Zalman. If the reason you consider switching is better cooling, go for Thermalright. That's my opinion.

I just did a P4 heatsink comparison for SilentPCReview. Look at the results on the last page. The Zalman and the SLK900U are basically tied for performance at with their fans running at 12 volts. The fan I used on the SLK900 is the 92mm Panaflo L1A which is a quiet fan. You could get better cooling from the SLK900 if you used a more powerful fan but the Zalman does not have a replaceable fan.

Dave57 - I guess the bottom line for you is: Which is more important, keeping your CPU cool without regard to noise, or keeping your CPU cool without creating extra noise. If it's the first option, go with the SLK900U or the big Swiftech. If it's option #2, go with the Zalman.

I see you have a P4P800 Del. MB, what would be the easiest CPU cooler to install. I don't what to do any adjustments to the MB. Just what to install CPU and add cooler.

The absolute easiest to install would be the Swiftech MCX478-V. See the pics of it's mounting technique in the review I linked above. It fits into the stock P4 heatsink retention bracket and attaches with 2 easy to use clips. It's also a very good performer, evry bit as good as the well-liked Thermalright SLK900U.

I have the Zalman running on a P4C800 E and it does a great job. I thought it was quite easy to install, if your P4P800 has the same layout it should be a piece of cake. I'm running the CPU fan at approx. 1800 rpm which gives me a idle CPU temp of 30 C and a MB running 29 C, I have never gotten the CPU to rise above 43 C (couple of hrs and full load). One thing I will mention is that it seems like my reported temp in bios is a little higher though.

I was considering trying the stock cooler for awhile to how the temps are. I don't plan to overclock and where this is a home machine there is usually only one program running at a time. The only constant load would be when a game is being played, What is your take on this, do you think the stock cooler would be suitable for this purpose?

The stock cooler would be fine under those circumstances. The only downside to it would be that it is noisy.
