cpu compatibility

I have an MSI K7T Pro (MS-6330) motherboard and currently run an 800 MHZ Thunderbird. According to MSI's website I can upgrade to an AMD Thunderbird 1200 MHZ (200 FSB) processor. My question is if I can upgrade to an AMD Thunderbird 1200 MHZ (266 FSB)? It is easier to find the latter processor and would also serve for a motherboard upgrade more than the 200 FSB counterpart. does the spec sheet for the proc say if it supports both 200 and 266 or just 200 FSB??

The motherboard says that it supports 200 MHZ FSB, but not 266. I know it sounds kind of dumb, but would a 266 MHZ FSB processor be backwards compatible? Kind of like pc 133, 100, and 66 MHZ ram, that the ram will just run as fast as the bus will support.

🙁 No go for 266 on that board 🙁 Don't waste your money on a 266 CPU at the same speed.

That board has the KT133 chipset NOT the KT133A, so you will not get the 133Mhz fsb. Plus this is a SDRAM board, so you are not getting 266Mhz, just 133.

Get a new mobo and RAM, unlock the CPU and pop it up to 133 X 10 or something. Good luck.

Thanks, DivideByZero. I guess that answered my question. I will probably just upgrade to a 1.2 GHZ 200FSB processor (+/- $90 includes s/h) and call it good. Any more upgrades would be worth getting a new motherboard and processor, and new ram. I don't really upgrade that often anyways. I usually just end up getting a new computer, seeing how I only get a new one about once every 2 yrs. At least that is the way that it has been for the last couple of computers, but I have been using some previous components so they are getting outdated anyways.
