OP has
EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3

the 9800 GTX is a lvl above
the 9800 GT is on par with the 5750
Alright...so...?

Let's take another example. The 8800GT and the 3870 are on the same level as the 9800GT and 5570 respectively. I don't think when they were released anybody would have characterised the two GPUs as 'about equal'.

My main worry is Skyrim
You'll almost definitely be able to play it. The question is, at what settings, and at what resolution.

OK, since I'm leaning toward the Xplorer X6-9500 instead now, how do you think this laptop and my current desktop compare? Still looking at the 2.0 SB, this laptop rocks a GeForce GT 540M 2GB though.

It'll do better than the 6570, that's for sure. It might even do as well as that 9800GT. Sometimes. But there's no question that the 2630QM is a better CPU than the E8400.
