Alright, I'm looking to upgrade my mobo, processor, and (since necessary) RAM right around the beginning of December. So my basic debate is Intel vs. AMD, but there are so many things to consider (since I've had setups with both AMD and Intel). With all kinds of new stuff that just came out, it's been harder to keep up. I guess the main outside consideration is my sound card (SB Live! 5.1 Platnium) which is known to crackle with AMD setups. So I'm looking for input...obviously, go DDR with AMD, but with Intel, RAMBUS or DDR? SiS-645 or Intel chipset? Any input appreciated...oh, price-wise, I'm looking to spend about $300 total (though I know prices may change between now and then, keep in that kind of price range). Thanks in advance.

If you get an AMD system, the chipsets you'll most likely want will be either KT266A or nForce.

I have looked into it...I'm looking for more personal testimonials, fewer benchmarks and PR dribble.

I'll look into AMD. Some basics: -
1. CPU - Athlon XP
2. Mobo - KT266A chipset (Epox)
3. RAM - DDR (crucial, kingmax)
4. VGA - GF GTS & up
5. PSU - min 350W
6. Snd card - I'll take any.
7. Cooler - sk-6, termo engine

Thts bout it.

I have the 8KHA+, and have had only good experiences with it. Windows XP may have something to do with that, though.

I've had a P4 with Rambus since April. I've had zero issues. Intel is the way to go if rock solid stability is the biggest issue. The VIA chipset soltions are no where near the maturity level of even the current and newer Intel 845 chipset. That is just my $.02. I hear the Intel "Brookdale" DDR chipset will be released sometime in November. If AMD is where you decide to go take a good look at the Nforce. It looks really good so far.

I've run 98SE,ME,W2K, and XP on my machine. I have an Intel D850GB. Search the forums for issues. The new board is the D850MV.
