Hi,
Sure its a dumb question, but just giving it a chance. I bought a Pentium 3GHz OEM recently. The CPU was damaged during shipping. Pins are bent and one pin is missing. I cant return it because it is too late. Is there any way to salvage the CPU I got?
Thanks for your input in advance.

Return it. If you bought it from a dealer, it's covered. If you bought it from an individual, the seller is responsible for packaging it for safe shipment. Hopefully, it was insured.

I cant return it because the return period has expired. Just wanted to know if I can salvage it by soldering or modding?

I highly doubt you will be able to salvage it. The extra pins are there for a reason, and even if you were able to get it to work, it would not work properly. If you were trying to unbend some of the pins, you will most likely break off some of the others in the process

You can try. If the pin is n/c (no connection), the chip should work. The worst that will happen already has happened.

Good luck. :)

Just make sure the have some way to dissipate the heat while you solder the pin, else you may destroy the proc.the damage has already been done, but just unbend the pins first, then test it, then see if it works, if not, try to solder it.

Or be cruel, buy a new one, and switch out the new one for the defective one, and return it....it IS their fault, and I'd say you'd be morally justified. LOL.

If the pin was a ground pin, it should work if you are able to unbend the rest without breaking them off. The worst has already happen, give it a go, what have you got to lose.
