CPU bogged down?? HELP!

When I have music playing and I close an internet explorer or windows explorer window, the music hiccups for a second then resumes playing. Also, at times my mouse will slow down when moving accross the screen, which leads me to believe that it is something to do with the processor. I never used to have this problem, but I reformatted my computer one time and its been doing it ever since.

I have an Athlon xp 2800+, 1gig of ddr, and asus a7n8x-e motherboard.

Please help!

Make sure your mobo drivers are up to date, and oddly enough you may want to check/reinstall your audio drivers. They have been known to cause odd little scenarios like yours as well as others. Also if this is your first reformat of this machine, that would be another good reason to verify that you have the latest board drivers. good luck.

yes, integrated sound. i tried to update the audio drivers and it said that they already were up to date.

It happens when itunes is in the background. Also, I use foldershare to sync files between my computers, and when its transferring in the background for some reason my mouse slows down as it moves accross the screen.
