cpu better or ram>

Depends on how much (or little Ram) you have, and what you do.

256mb to 512mb is a VERY BIG speed jump
512mb to 1GB is not nearly as big but is noticable

Put it this way kid, a P4 2.4ghz machine will have it's ass handed to it by a PII 450 if the 2.4 has only 64MB of ram while the PII has 512MB of ram..

With most modern processors, I would say you'll benefit more going from 1 gig to 2 gigs as opposed to going from A64 3000+ to 4000+. Also, it is good to have a fast hard drive since it is the slowest component in a system.

Raptor Raptor thats what ya need get 2 maybe 3 or how about 4? RAID 0?? Would be fasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssst

I got 2 and its fassssst!

But anyways if you have xp and 512mb of ram or less upgrade ram as long as cpu is over 1.6ghz AMD or 2.0ghz Intel. If you have a lower cpu then those specs you probably need new board/cpu/ram so just upgrade the bastad. Just my 2 cents

You need to be a LOT more specific on what programs you are refering to. What you really want is a balance of CPU speed and RAM. If you have less RAM, that what your programs are using, and you hit the page file, you would get an improvement by adding more ram. If you already have enough ram for what you are running, and you are doing something that is very CPU dependant such as video encoding, then a faster CPU will make more differance.
