I have an A7V KT133 socket A motherboard that I have been using for a few years now and wanted to throw in a new cpu and fan to ease the workload on my old 900mhz chip.

Can I put in an amd xp 2000+ ? Pretty sure it will not be a huge boost because of the motherboard but I want to put it in there for some boost (good price on the chip)

Thanks

*****edit: I think this is the chart I was looking for

Yeah, I was not quite sure about that chart, I thought they were lumping my board in there. I can't seem to find anything about my specific board, so I figure I will just wait until I get a new mobo.

Thanks.

Asus Support pages are the crap. Why on earth anyone would categorize their technical FAQ by month and year is beyond me. "Yes, my problem relates to...August of 99?"

At any rate, A7V PCB v1.05 has been validated with Duron 1.3GHz using BIOS version 1008 or later. There is a fairly good chance it will also support XP processors up to around 1600+ or so.

Ok, I just found an Asus CPU support database. All PCB of the A7V supports up to 1.4GHz T-Bird and 950Mhz Duron. PCB 1.05 increases Duron support to 1.3GHz. Using BIOS v1008 or higher.

The old Athlon 1.4Ghz (200MHz FSB) is a power hungry sucker, I see no reason why any board that can run the 1.4G T-Bird wouldn't also be able to do XP processors, as long as the power consumption doesn't exceed 1.4GHz T-Bird. Except that you're limited to 200MHz FSB instead of 266MHz FSB.

So Athlon XP2000+ would actually run at 1.25GHz instead of 1.67GHz, which I believe is still less than the power consumption of the 1.4GHz T-Bird.

At any rate, you can try Asus Forums to see if anyone else has tried XP's on the A7V.
