My mate needs a new machine. He doesn't play games at all, and is fine with onboard video. He does a bit of dixv incoding etc.

I was thinking and PD805 and Intel D101GGC mobo. Does this sounds ok.

I hate to recommend intel atm, but you cant go past the 805 if your not gaming.

Will this rig be ok? And can you confirm that DDR1 will work ok on this mobo?

Well thats certainly differant, an Intel motherboard with an ATI chipset..but in any case the board uses DDR 1, and supports the pentium-d so they should work fine together.

Yeah, and i'm thinking the X300 onboard video would be better than intels descrete graphics.

I'm just wondering how well the ati chipsets support duel cores.

PD 805@3.7ghz Gigabyte 8N-SLI
LoL :laugh: stevty2889!
Have you got that thing running 800FSB? That's amazing, don't they run 2.6GHz or something... that's a Manly overclock.
@sirbrad
The Intel CPU and motherboard are expensive. Why not go for higher performance, with less watts, less heat, and less cost? An inexpensive ECS combo (motherboard, AMD CPU and cooler) would seem perfect for your mate.
They are $130 Canadian (about 65 Pounds Sterling, 90 Euros).
Can you get these in your area? Dunno where you are...
The D-805 rig would be more powerful though, but not much.
Regards

It'll post at 800mhz FSB(4ghz) but won't load windows. It will boot in to windows @3.8ghz, but isn't 100% stable. I think it might actualy be the motherboard thats limiting the OC.
