Cox cable, DirectTV or DishNetwork? which is better?

anybody recommend one over the other? I'm just needing basic stuff like espn, etc. Don't need HD since I don't have a fancy TV or anything like that.
 
My opinion is DTV > DishNet > Cable, then again I may be biased😀 Really, check and make sure you have your local channels via Satellite if you want them and decide to go that route. That being said, DTV is better for sports, Dish is better for movies (and they also have a cheaper package, $25 for the "Top 50" package on 1 reciever), Cable, well, its cable😀

Edit: Good call, Internet options via Sat are awful, aviod them if possible, If you have DSL then it doesn't matter, If you have cable it will be cheaper to go the cable route😀
 
Don't know about cox in your area, but in my area cable stations are of varying quality. Only a select number of them are actually digital. With DirecTV all channels, with the possible exception of your locals, are digital. You also can get better DVRs.

Can't say much about dish. I think they have decent prices, but the DVR sucks (or at least did last I checked).

Important question. Also, which part of the country one resides plays a factor as well (with regard to non-satellite choice), as many areas have multiple providers.
 
IMO, DirecTV is compressing ALL their channels far too much. The SD is barely watchable and the HD is just a shame.

I have DirecTV and will be switching to Voom this year.

If I were you (a non-HD customer), I'd stay with cable or go with Dish if you can get free equipment.

I have the same thing. I considered switching to one of the others you listed for cable and keeping the cox HSI. I looked about 3 months ago and it was more money and I decided it was not worth it. I think if money was not an object or I stole internet through someone's wireless, I would jump to Dish or DirecTV.
 
I say DirecTV if you only have one or two TVs that you are hooking up. Great price and selection of channels and the DirecTivo receiver owns all.

Be sure to use the S-Video cable if your TV accepts it though. Amused is correct about the SD picture quality but I've only really noticed it when using the standard RCA video input or cable input. Video via a S-Video cable looks fine to me.

Most people are uninstalling their Voom Systems the having them installed at this point, some of the reasons are (1) because the picture quality is worse than DTV and Dishnetwork (2) Voom also isn't offering any locals through the Sat, they give you an off air antenna instead and (3) Their equipment also has been very, very bad so far (these are just what I've heard in the last week😀) On a good note, they have a lot more HD than DTV or Dish offer😀

Where are you hearing this?

BTW, HD customers WANT their locals from an antenna. NO Sat service in the US offers locals in HD. The only way to get them in HD is OTA or cable.

I know DirecTV has plans to start offering HD Locals later this year. They are launching two new satellites that are supposed to handle ~1500 HD channels combined. I can't remember if DISH or Voom have similar plans.

 
I'm an installer for Voom😀 Anyway, you are correct, I stand corrected on the locals in a way, In this area (upstate NY) most Voom customers are not in range with the antenna Voom offers due to distance and/or terrain so it becomes a choice of SD locals or none at all😀

If you are in an area that cannot receive locals from an antenna DirecTV will sell you HD 'locals' from new york and La for $2.25 a network. (At least NBC, CBS, FOX and ABC.)

I'm not sure how I ever lived without DirecTiVo. 🙂

I was considering going with Comcast cable, because they offer a dual tuner HD DVR package. But once I saw how poor the standard definition quality was, I started saving for a DirecTiVo HD unit. 🙂

does anyone have any experience with dish's dvr unit? i don't think it's tivo but I would like to see how it compares
