coworker, actually he sits in my cube with me - so annoying

There are 2 very obvious locations to place our desktops, and a convenient spot right next to that for our laptops. The cube is divided such that we sit back to back, which actually is nice because we have a lot of space on our desks.

However, he put his desktop on the wrong side of his desk, and now our chairs are literally back to back instead of staggered on both sides of the cube. I can't move my chair without hitting his and every time he re-adjusts (4-5 times per hour), he smashes into me.

Being the blunt, abrasive person I can be sometimes, I asked him why he did something like that and to please put it back to normal. He said ok and went about his business. Nothing changed. I asked again on Tuesday and still no change. Bear in mind I asked nicely and made sure he knew it wasn't a big deal.

I am not normally the type of person to complain about anything at work, especially not co-worker problems. I am blunt and honest, but I have tact and know when to speak and when not to speak. However, I really want to just pound his face into his laptop American History X style and let him know that his constant shuffling makes me want to rip is dongle off of his body and strange him with it. I am in the middle of a sentence on a conference call and he gets up at 100mph and rams my ribs into the desk at least once a week.

I can't ask nicely because I've exhausted all permutations of that scenario. The only thing left is to either move his shit myself or get my manager involved. Either way I think this is going to result in a problem, and I don't want that.

Both valid points, but there is a shelf on the other side of the desk that the monitors won't fit under. He put his monitors in front of said shelf so they are literally 3 inches from the end of the desk, with the keyboard sitting on top of the monitor stands. He has about 3"x2" of mouse pad area and his keyboard bounces with every key-press as it is not sitting evenly on the desk. I could move my desk and work with the same situation, but that is incredibly stupid as there is a gigantic space 3 feet to the right with dedicated spaces for all of this in a much more comfortable position.

I should also add that there is currently nothing in the open space where his computers should be. I have no idea why he is being so stubborn but it's really pissing me off. It's Friday. I don't need this.

Haha. I would prefer if he would just come to his senses and see that the reasonable thing to do here is to move his stuff. I have even offered to move his desktop for him while he is at lunch so he doesn't have to lift a finger. No go.

Move your computer over to the unused portion of his desk and prop your feet up on the part of the desk in front of him. Maybe he'll take a hint.

That was my first thought, most people are truly stupid enough to think something like this is funny and/or makes them a better person. Screw with his PC imo. All the classic pranks, you know... screenshot of his desktop, make it his background and remove the icons... etc.

Too high. Needs to be lower to insult him ("That's what my life is worth to someone!?!"), but just high enough to be "reasonable".

Man, what a jerk. If he has that kind of mentality I don't think he'll last long at your company anyway.

The obvious answer would be to report the problem to a supervisor even how stupid it is. Though I know how bad it could be to spill bad blood like that on your "room mate", but I seriously doubt this guy has any sense of humanism at all.

Did you ever consider to start hitting his chair back? Adjust your chair every 5 minutes on the dot and make sure to slam into him. That may get it through his head.

Yes. I'm sorry if you aren't capable of that, but I can tell people how it is while remaining professional and tactful. It isn't hard.

I can't. Well, I can, but I don't want to because we are both co-ops (in different divisions, competition isn't the problem). I want to be hired after I graduate and I don't want to be known for having co-worker problems.

Only every time it happens. I don't want to be like him though, because he is the type of person to complain the first time something like that happened. Maybe I can talk to his boss instead of mine and ask him what I should do to remedy the situation and remain on peaceful terms with my cube-mate. I don't dislike him but this really pisses me off for obvious reasons.

move his computer for him? if he bitches to superiors, explain yourself, at which point (unless this is The Office) they'll realize that your cubicle-mate was being an arse

Talking to his boss would be a good idea since it bothers you that much and he isnt gonna change.
