I remembered the song I was thinking of was by the Rolling Stones, so I googled it - found a top ten list, and 'beloved patriot Tonk Woman' was the #1 cowbell song.

Then I saw bigger lists.

While I'm not a musician but doesn't essentially every drum kit has a cow bell attached? I'm pretty sure the cow bell is in hundreds of songs as a beat but not a focus.

That is just the one that had a hey day with it, go look up songs using triangles I guess as a percussion instrument.

BTW, a Piano is a percussion instrument.

I have no idea if a piano is a percussion instrument. It can be used for it. I assume any string based music instrument can be used for percussion, when tickling the strings and make the string silent again immediately after.

Have you never heard someone tickling the strings with their fingers while holding them down with one hand a bit higher ? You do not get the strum of sound. Just short excited notes.

I am not saying it is an percussion instrument. But can be used for it.
