cow tipping...

my teacher who acts like he knows everything says it's impossible to tip cows and it's all just a myth. I don't think he's right (as usual). It wouldn't be talked about so much if it weren't real. So, what's the deal with cow tipping?

It is a myth, cows do not sleep standing up, they lay down and sleep, and yes i am right i live in TN with many farms.

Of course you can tip a cow over. It is not like they have built in gyroscopes. The thing is that they can usually get back up.

Hah, i laugh at you people, you go into my field at night with all the cows and see what happens, can you say, "stampede!" haha i'll jus laugh at you all while the herd of cattle crush you under their hoof's.

yea you can tip a cow, they don't sleep standing up like Stiler said. You have to get them if the farmer left their cows out for the night. From what I saw when I was at my friends farm they dont have very good eye sight. If you try to tip the and you get it half-way and let go, it might topple over on the guys tipping it over, there was an article about it in my local newpaper a few months back. Some kid tried to tip a cow and didnt quite get it and the cow fell and pushed the kid over, than landed on his legs. Stupid hicks

<< You have to realize that tipping a cow is a very moooving experience for her.

they may not be able to see good at night, but boy do they hear ya, my friend and i went walking in the field so i could prove to him that you couldn't, heres what happened,
"ME:shh be quiet man were gonna get the sh!t trammpled out of us"
"friend: no were not, its easy to tip cows over"
"me: *laughing* hahaha ok"

We get maybe 25 foot from about the 89 head of cattle:
"friend: Do you hear that"
"me: yes"
"friend: what the hell is that?"
"me: the cows"
"friend: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn"
"me: laughing and i jump over the other side of the fence"
"friend: Ahhhhhhhhh where'd you go i can't see a thing"
"me: ahhhhhh they are right behind you, runnnnnnnn , oh man you better run for your fricking life!"
"friend: ahhhhhhhhhh help"
luckily he made it out without any bruises except for major pile of cow dung he stepped in and fell into all over his clothes

But all cows are not in herds in a big field, some are in pairs in a small field, and are use to people being around them. Not that I have ever done this, just wittnessed.

Sure it is possible.

I dunno if you can tip it over with hand since I have no experience.

If you load it into a UPS truck and smash the truck into a FedEx truck, I'm sure cow will tip inside 😀

Alternately, The heaviest person according to the Guiness book 2001 edition weighs 1100lbs or so. So if you weight anything close to that, set a cow at bottom of a hill. You get to top of the hill, get in a radio flyer wagon and crash into a cow. I think your momentum would tip the cow over.

Oh, it's very possible. You just run at them really fast, jump up in the air, and curl up into a little ball.

The myth comes when you think that they have to be asleep, but it's a pain when they keep running away and you have to hunt them down. 😀

I go to UC Davis (biggest Ag school in the state) and I can tell you that cows do sleep lying down. A friend of mine did tell me that cow tipping is really quite bad for the cow though and can cause great internal problems. Just think about rolling your car onto its side? You can do it, but it will really mess it up!

<< blah blah blah. So no ones done it is what I hear.

Hey its not my fault I haven't tried it. I was never a hick and never had "farm duties" and I never done yard work except for helping friends on rare ocassions. The landscape guy does gardening since I don't want to do it.

I may be setting myself up for a flaming here but... what the hell is cow tipping??? 😕

Edit: never mind, Jerboy was kind enough to explain. Jeez you guys are weird!

Yah, as Stiler said, I don't think I'd be trying to tip over a cow, especially when many others are around. My grandfather grew up on a farm in Dodge City, and I visited it a few times (his brother still runs the farm). We were in a van driving through the pasture where all the cows "graze" (whatever you call it), and they quickly stampeded when we got too close. They proceeded to bump into the van, causing it to seriously sway from side to side, etc.. I wouldn't want to be there w/o the protection of the van.

Careful not to choke on that silver spoon - if you do you may not be able to tighten the windsor on your paisley all the way. 😉

CLETUS: "Well, Jebediah, weez all finished with sowing the hogs and milkin' the cows...whut wegunnado now?
JEBEDIAH: "Well gee, Cletus, I don't rightly now...maybe go find us a woman?"
CLETUS: "Hell no, Jebediah! You's musn' be a dumb-ass...the whore house dun close about a year ago."
JEBEDIAH: "Well, heck, don't that just beat all? Less' us go git right darn drunk and tip us some cows, then!"
CLETUS: Yeeeeeee-hawwwwwww!
