I've noticed many times, relating to different topics, on different forums, that a conservative will do that 'passive-aggressive sarcasm snark' thing that they _love_ doing, and then a fellow conservative will take them literally and start arguing with them.

It really seems as if 'weak sarcasm' is the standard rhetorical 'mode' for conservatives these days. I have a theory that it's because they know their actual positions are hard to defend, so by expressing them in that sarcastic manner they can avoid having to state directly and clearly what they actually think, and so avoid the absurdity of it being too obvious.

The social media fact checkers seem to be on vacation and no one gets banned or punished by twitter for outright lies.

It seems "one side" doesn't have a monopoly on quacks, liars, and conspiracy nuts. Maybe one day people will understand that there has been a mind boggling amount of outright deception and the intentional misleading of people surrounding the origins and the ongoing management of COVID.

Yeah, that was one contract ER doc for multiple hospitals that appears to have lied. That does not detract from the fact that hospital ICUs around the country are overloaded with COVID patients.

You can call out one false item, which I acknowledged, but that's the rare exception not the rule, and yet you still persist. Literally doctors staging a symbolic walkout due to overwhelmed hospitals, the shithead governor of Texas asking for emergency nurses to come to the state, literally a vet died not getting care for a non-Covid related illness due to no beds, a child getting airlifted 150 miles to a hospital due to lack of pediatric beds, and on and on and on, etc...

Yes, I do worry because we're talking around 15 family members who think this way, and the worst of them are college educated with high paying careers. So I just do not understand what's up with them, but I feel the need to share because sadly these people are not that much of a minority as one might think. We have a lot of Americans who think this way, possibly 70 million give or take. That 70 million who support Donald Trump. So what is going in here???? My only conclusion is that this is truly a cult. It smells like a cult, it has all of the red flags of a cult. How does a cult like this attract so many loyal committed members? I still believe there is something else going on here like possible substance abuse, childhood trauma, or some sort of undiagnosed mental illness. Is it our advanced social media technology that people just can't cope with? It spreads like an illness and as contagious as the covid pandemic. I see good educated reasonable people fall not this cult-like insanity nearly every day and its worse when they happen to be family and relatives. What to do....? What to do....?
