I'd ask why it's open to begin with :)

Also.

Will increase heat, could cause static.

The minimum temp of r9 290 is 70c any case it will be like that, but if leave my case open it becomes 61-63c btw im using a house fan in my open case.

OP you can cover it like you said but there is no point really cause your components will suck more dust when you are running or using it as blowers are running.

Covering with towel is ok and good if you leave your rig for like a week or a month or even a year. Then its worth it but if only overnight? I dont see the point

I only covered it when turn off. When on i removed the towel but open case. but im afraid it can cause static. maybe not? Cause its turn off?

Being a little over protective of the machine? I used to put my original Gameboy in a large tube sock when I wasn't using it back when I was like 10... Now I just put more appropriate things in tube socks :p and try not to sweat the small stuff. I could understand if you had cats or something but even then... Can we get a pic of the PC? Maybe it will help some of us put things into perspective

The computer case and various components are all grounded through the power cord. So, any static can't build up and would just bleed off into the ground wire. Are you getting static sounds as you pull off the cover? What is the cover material made out of? Is it wool? Wool and some plastics rubbed together can build up static electricity, maybe your case is plastic and your cover is wool?

Op, I'm assuming you're leaving your case open because the GPU is getting hot, perhaps throttling. And then whenever you're away you put a towel over it, instead of placing the side cover back on.

It's safe for the most part but there some things to be concerned about. You will want to be careful if you have pets dogs/cats, etc. Also keep in mind mice will have easier access. I wouldn't leave it open if you have kids around. That's off the top of my head but I'm sure you get the idea.

Personally, I would troubleshoot my overheating problem and put the cover back on. As suggested in the other thread download some software to check those temps.

That psu..... That poor psu. I wonder what that 290 is doing to the 12v rail on that thing lol.

Is your rear fan setup as an intake? I would seriously consider buying another case that that card belongs in. It seems as though the card is actually touching the hard drive supports, wires are everywhere and by the looks of things air flow is of concern due to cover being off and probable fan orientation.

That picture hurt me in ways I can only show on a doll. I must be an elitist.

OP, I'd suggest a new case, personally. Just to give your PC components the home they deserve.

If that is a 290, I'm surprised the PSU hasn't blown. That is just a poor 1995 era case - PSU top mount, not bottom, non removable drive trays, lack of fans and fan options, at least you can stuff the wires round the back I suppose . . . . .

My PC wears a towel because it thinks nothing can see it if it can't see anything.

OP can you please just stick to one thread where you ask all of your troll questions? I'd also suggest a wonderful tool called Google. It just came out and it allows you to search for answers to anything.
