Covad DSL service 200/64 for $21.95 for the first 4 months!

$39.95/mo after that. No early termination fees! Can be upgraded to 608/128 anytime for $49.95/mo, and still no early termination fees if you upgrade. There is a $199 modem charge, but there is also a $199 rebate to cover that. I figured that I can't really go wrong with this since I either upgrade or cancel anytime (and keep the modem). I knew about this deal a while ago, but didn't really jump on it until someone from Covad called me today. The service must be ordered by July 31.

BTW: You also get free pre-installation Dial-up for up to 150 hours.

Holy Crap Deal Batman!

I guess this depends on where you live...
For me AT&T cable is 1500/256 for $49

SBC just tried to sell me 768/128 for $29, not for 6 months, thats the price of the service.

Must be a local deal, the only deal I see on the SBC webpage is:
Basic Up to 1500
Introductory offer

For a limited time, sign up for a one-year term and receive Basic DSL Internet Access Service for only $29.95 per month for the first six months. Also receive a free DSL modem ($99 value).

It really isn't a bad deal at all for someone paying $21.95/mo for dialup. The important thing is that you can cancel after 4 months and keep the gateway to use with another service down the road. It gives you 4 months to find a better deal for a real broadband connection. 25KBps isn't bad at all for regular websurfing and downloading the occasional file. I will get 8 times faster downloads than I already have for the same price and have much improved latency for websurfing. All in all it's a good deal since you have the option to get out or upgrade service any time and go month to month if do decide to upgrade service. Again 200kbps down isn't bad, it may be if you're trying to win a bandwidth competition with your friends, but other than that it's very useable.

An option has monetary value.

As for the great $29, and $39 deals out there - not everybody lives in an area where they can take advantage of those deals.

this is great, now that I canceld my ATT Cable. I had dsl before and my speed never reached 384, this will do me good, now only if they offer that plan entirely not just the first 4 months.

Covad 1500/384 for 50 a month sounds better to me.... I've been on it for almost two years now, and I dont have any compaints, except that the uplaod is kinda slow.

There is a little confusion on this plan:

The $21.95 TeleSurfer Link (Self Install) plan has no installation fee because it's self-installed. But the $199 rebate form for the cable modem said that end users must "have Covad TeleSurfer Link installed by Covad".

Don't really know if self-installed service can qualify us for the rebate.

The guy I talked to said that you do qualify for the rebate with self install. It means that the service has to be setup by Covad and not a Covad partner. Hence the installed by Covad part. I'm going to call again just to be 100% sure and post back here.

You guys DO know Covad went through bankruptcy last year, right? While they DID manage to come back from the brink, I don't know if i'd count on any long-term agreements with them. You never know, though...

How did you get that deal?? it's still exists?? didn't see anything like that on the website.. thanks..

Kind of cold when you can get cable for around $45 a month or dsl from your local phone company for $40-50. This would have been a nice package if it stayed at $22.

They came out of bankruptcy stronger than they were 3 years ago. They have no debt.

Im using mindsping/earthlink as an ISP. I signed up two years ago, and a covad guy came to install my modem free of charge. I got the first three months for the price of one, and I even ended up getting that $199 rebate, effectively giving me 6 free months of DSL and a modem. ITs still just as fast as it was when I installed it. I live in central NJ, btw.

i am left with the impression that for last year or so there has been no evolution of DSL speeds/service,
in fact things have gone downhill 🙁 ... ISPs now offer so much less for same price than they did year ago 🙁

nevertheless nice deal for the money! 25/8 KB/sec is good dial-up alternative indeed...

same deal as ss284 in the bay area, although i didn't get the 3 months for price of one, but instead $39/mo for about a year, before they jacked up the price to $49/mo. my only real complaint is that the network access occasionally goes down, particularly during the day time. i guess i have a second complaint--once you start using broadband at home, there's no going back. you're hooked and bound forever to pay the higher monthly access fees. 🙂

My roomate has DSL now, we are sharing it with a router, but due to security purposes related to his job, we can't share it anymore. Can I get another DSL in the house, if there is already a DSL service on the same line !?
I really like this deal and I think I will jump on it, your answer is appreciated.
Thanks

Deal is still active.
Don't know what the expiration date is.

Wonder if you could sign up for the MSN deal that includes a free modem, get your stuff , hook it up then cancel the msn agreement and use that modem with the Covad deal?

I ordered this, and after 1 day of used, I ended up canceling it the next day, that 64k upload really bites for First Person gaming... even 56k is more stable at gaming fps than it was.....

I would get Earthlink cable way before this. Earthlink is $42/month. Free install, ect. Plus 2mbps speed down/384up. 200mbps is pathetic. The upload is even worse.
