Cousin wants me to build a PC for him

He wants to be able to throw just about any game at it. Currently he plays WOW & Warrock.

This would be a complete build, he has no carry over parts.

Minimums:

Budget is $1,300.00

22" Screen

We're putting it off until windows 7 comes out, so no other OS's.

Cool looking case. Nothing plain. He likes the idea of blue lights inside it.

i'll say i5 750 + gigabyte P55-UD3R. memory kit will be around $80, Radeon 4870 1GB $150, Hitachi 1TB HDD $80, DVDRW $30, corsair 650TX $99.. see if you can make room in your budget for a $240 intel X25 from provantage. install windows on that SSD and he'll be impressed.

that all comes to $1019. prioritize the monitor and then your flashy toy case can have the remainder of the budget.

Thread should be titled, "Cousin wants me to fix his computer for the next 4 years."

Seriously though, i5 750, P55, HD4890, WD 1TB black caviar, corsair 520HX

Thanks for your input. I think I have most of what that thread has covered.

I'm not a fanboy of anything. Best performance for the money is my concern.

I'll be building/buying in the US. I usually deal with newegg.

No overclocking. If any it will be done to allow keeping stock cooling equipment.

This sounds about right to me. You might want to see about a Radeon 5850 rather than 4800 series. They should be around $250 upon release (mid-late Oct, right around Win 7) and should be very good cards around the 4890 in performance, maybe more, and DX11 for longevity. Also, unless you can see why you want to get a full ATX board, Gigabyte's mATX boards are less expensive. If you're not overclocking, why not get their $110 p55 board, the mP55-UD2?

Good luck, this will also help you learn whether you'd enjoy working Geek Squad as a career 😉

Well I repair PC's on the side. He's like my brother anyway. So I wouldn't mind. Plus, I like tinkering with computers.
